Volunteer Collapses, Dies Answering Call

Dobbs Ferry - A volunteer fireman responding to an 8:05PM alarm yesterday suffered an apparent heart attack and was taken to Dobbs Ferry Hospital by the Volunteer ambulance corps. and was pronounced dead. The victim was Fireman Joseph T Beattie, 43, a member of Ogden Engine Co. He lived at 120 North Field Avenue.

Mr. Beattie was a regional sales representative of the Canada Dry Co. and moved to Dobbs Ferry two years ago.

When the alarm sounded, Mr. Beattie responded in his own car to a residence under construction on Bramley Lane in the Hickory Hill section. Upon alighting, he joined other firemen and was seen to collapse almost immediately. Firemen used a resuscitator and additional first aid was given by members of the ambulance corps.

The fire did no damage to the house which is being built by Golio Construction Co. It was smoke and burning embers in a portable heater that alarmed a resident
in the area and provoked the fire alarm. Fire Chief John Yozzo and three companies of firemen were at the scene.
